Testimonials

These are some comments Monique has received from students of her beginner, intermediate and advanced tatting classes. If you would like any information about the classes, please contact Monique here.

Monique is an inspiration and wealth of knowledge to learn from. Her years of experience and ingenuity in the tatting world make her a wealth of information for any students.

Two series of classes is far from enough to learn from her, but there is only one of her and so many of us. She devotes so much time to her students and gets to know them.

She is kind and a blast to be around. I couldn't ask for a better teacher or tatting friend.

Robin - Wisconsin, USA

Beginner (2023), Intermediate & Advanced (2024)

Monique’s class was a lot of fun. I learned a lot from her. This was my first class with someone on the other side of the world and that was great as well.

I have really enjoyed getting to know Monique.

Her explanations and demonstrations are some of the clearest I have found, and doing the live classes allows for questions in real time and feedback from her that you just can’t get with you tube videos alone.

Stephanie - Maine, USA

Intermediate & Advanced (2024)

I was thrilled to find an online teacher to help me learn tatting. I had never done virtual craft classes but I was so impressed that I managed to learn so much so fast.

Monique was a patient and thorough teacher, and went at my pace while still progressing through techniques.

Highly recommend and looking forward to doing a more advanced class after more practice!

Alana - Sydney, Australia

Beginner (2023)

With the exception of the basic double stitch, I am self-taught in the art of tatting. I came across Monique's YouTube videos, Noo Bear, while researching a stitch I hadn't known existed.

I have learned quite a bit from her videos as well as taking a class from her. Monique worked with me to tailor the class to meet my needs.

Monique is very willing to help me with any questions I have. I recommend her videos to those who have questions or are looking to learn how to tat.

Linda - Wisconsin, USA

Intermediate & Advanced (2024)

I don't often write or post my work ( I'm not good with the technology) but I would like to share my experience with Monique's tatting classes.

I enjoyed the intermediate class so much that I will take the advanced one soon.

I had to stop my progression because my husband has been operated for a knee replacement and myself having a cyst of 4 cm on the clavicle, but I'm looking forward to start over again soon.

When I subscribed for the class, I received the detailed information of the elements to learn in advance and I made a compilation of them in a binder.  As we went by, for every class,  I had homework and I glued my work with some more explanation, if I had needed them in the space Monique foreseen for each element.  I've learned to read patterns which is precious.

Now, when working on a new element, if I forget, I have all I need to work properly.  Yes, I know there are videos but seeing my work and my note is even better.  It makes my body and mind proud of my work and it comes back promptly.

For those of you who starts tatting, I recommend a class with Monique Biggs. You will like it for sure.

Carole - Quebec, Canada

Beginner (2024), Intermediate (2024), Advanced (2025)

It has been so rewarding starting my Tatting journey with Monique, I did not have any idea how to start. my fingers were not following my brain.

I have been diagnosed with dyslexia but with people like Monique my " I can't, I am dyslexic, I give up" has gone from my vocabulary.. she has patience, always smiling not only facing but voice, giving me calm..

I am still in the learning process but I can follow videos and she is teaching me to read patterns (finally).. My short memory is exercising together with the long one..

Just yesterday, I was exhausted and almost sleepy from some painkillers in my work, while attending a meeting, I was not able to use my phone and to keep myself up i took my tatting, did the basic chain string, it put me back on track, this is an amazing journey for me.. thanks Monique.

Ruth - New Zealand

Beginner (2024)

I had the pleasure of taking Noo Bear's online beginning and intermediate tatting classes with Monique in 2024.

Monique has a very relaxed and warm teaching style, she is ultra patient and willing to show you a technique multiple times until to reach the "aha" moment when you can perform a new tatting skill.

The patterns that you will learn each week seem daunting at first but with Monique's guidance and expert teaching you will be amazed how quickly your technique will improve.

My tatting technique prior to undertaking Noo Bear classes was inconsistent, messy with a lot of gaps. However, after taking the Noo Bear online classes with Monique my tatting became more uniform, and my confidence grew enough to want to take on new more advanced tatting techniques.

So if you are thinking you want to become a better tatter take the Noo Bear online classes with Monique - you will not be disappointed.

Liz - Ocean Grove, Australia

Beginner (2023), Intermediate & Advanced (2024)

About a month after I started trying to teach myself to tat I discovered Monique’s YouTube channel and brand new (at that time) Facebook group, and realized I had found my tatting home.

All the information and help I needed and so much more! Monique is one of the best teachers I’ve ever encountered. She, and the members of her group are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

And then there’s her Etsy store… Her tatting accessories, totes and thread are fabulous. Her patterns are gorgeous and not only fun to tat but every one teaches you something new. Her small totes are just plain addictive. At last count I had six.

She finds the most beautiful fabrics and her workmanship is sheer perfection. NooBear hand-dyed thread is the best I’ve tatted with and the colorways are rich and beautiful. It’s smooth and soft but firm and makes it easy to produce lovely even stitches.

Now I have to go tat!

About Us - Noo Bear Australia

Noo Bear is a husband and wife team. Monique is the founder, creator and designer while Peter handles the books and technical side of the business.

Since the age of 3, Monique has always wanted to be doing something ‘crafty’ and had interest in sewing and crochet.

High school was where Monique’s interest in costuming began. Her senior textiles classes were completed by correspondence as classes weren’t offered in remote schools due to the lack of numbers and Sydney (Australia) was an 8hr drive. (No zoom in those days!)

Monique’s assessment piece for her final year of high school was a modified kimono. She received top marks for her work. Various trophies and awards followed in the years after.

While studying Fashion Design and Production in Melbourne, Monique took bridal couture as an elective. Monique graduated with an Associate Diploma and went on to work for Ellen Walker Couture where she spent the next 5 years.  After the birth of her daughter, Monique continued working for 6 months taking on more of the hand and beading work – which she was able to do from home.

She took time off to concentrate on family, and started a small business called Noo Bear, creating and designing anything from bridal gowns to signature bears and tote bags. While searching for a crochet pattern, Monique came across a picture of tatting, and so the journey began.

Monique is self-taught, and now loves to share her knowledge of the craft. Teaching was never planned. During one of the many covid lockdowns in Melbourne, Monique made a short video to help out a friend. That then led to friends and family applying ‘gentle persuasion’ for her to start a YouTube channel. The first video was uploaded in 2020.

None of the videos, sound checks, editing, online classes etc. would be possible without the expertise of Pete. His business management and technical skills are a huge part of the ‘side you don’t see’.

The strong desire to design was realised with the release of the Butterfly Kisses pattern in 2021.

Monique wrote her own Beginner classes in 2022 and taught her first in person class in August the same year. Intermediate and Advanced classes were written, with teaching for these levels beginning in 2023.

The Noo Bear Tatting group joined the Facebook world in April 2023 and runs a social event known as ‘Noo Bear’s Den’ every month, alternating between online and in person catch ups. All details for these catch ups can be found in the Events tab of the group. Everyone is welcome to join us!

Towards the end of 2024 Monique began hand dyeing her own thread, and so the journey continues…..

I’d love you to share it with me.
